The Koi Samurai
Age:

Gender:
Female
Country:
Honshu (Kyoto Province)

Rank:
Wandering Samurai
Personality:
Though she can be aloof and somewhat cryptic in her speech, the Koi Samurai is a kind-hearted and personable; rarely does she not have a smile on her face and it's proven to be quite contagious. She enjoys chatting with the various people she meets in her travels and absolutely adores children. When interacting with the ladder, the Koi Samurai often gives them small wooden toys she whittles herself out of wood gathered from many different places.
The Koi Samurai is also quite playful in regards to people asking her name. She'll often reply in riddles and try to annoy them into giving up on the endeavor. It has been said that no one has ever gotten her to speak her real name, and this was even before she got her current alias as "the Koi Samurai", which is an apt title given to her many years ago by a dying opponent who cut her tunic off with an errant blade.
Appearance:
The Koi Samurai never hides her face, but adults often have trouble remembering exactly what she looks like. However, children have no trouble in this regard and many regale their parents in the tale of the lady with the beautiful smile who was very nice too them.
Weapons:
Name of Weapon:
Sōgyo no Kotowari (Trust in Pisces)
Type of Weapon:
Wakizashi
Image of Weapon:
Clang!
Powers:
Sōgyo no Kotowari, in its resting state, is an unremarkable short sword with a keen edge kept from regular maintenance. In intense battle (sparring and one-sided fights are not sufficient), however, the weapon gains water-based powers that vary depending on the current mood of the Koi Samurai.
If happy, irreverent, or compassionate, the waters created by Sōgyo no Kotowari are freezing cold, enough to turn an object or person into solid ice seconds after being hit. If angry, bitter, or contemptible, the waters created are boiling hot, enough to bubble the flesh from bone near-instantaneously. Thankfully, the Koi Samurai rarely - if ever - experiences the last three emotions. Additionally, the Koi Samurai is not terribly good at controlling the power of Sōgyo no Kotowari, so in any sort of mood the waters are erratic and wild. More often than not, being struck by the water is by accident or from splashing off another object.
How you gained the Weapon:
The Koi Samurai was given the Sōgyo no Kotowari as a gift from a blacksmith whom she rescued from drowning about seven years ago. The sword was one of many he'd created, but after asking his daughter which blade he felt the kind lady should be given, she pointed to this rusty looking weapon which was hanging above the door to his forge. Despite the color, the little girl adamantly insisted that "it matched her name." The Koi Samurai graciously accepted the weapon and left with no idea it might possess any sort of magic. It wasn't until nearly nine months later that she discovered that it could create and manipulate vast quantities of water, and over a year later that those powers were dependant on her mood.

History:
When regarding the Koi Samurai, differentiating between fact and myth is quite difficult, as so many different tales have been told about her. Some people have come to think of her not as a natural being at all, but rather a nature spirit who wanders the the land looking to prosecute anyone who would dare defile it. Others say she is the ghost of a murdered female samurai who's love of all things was strong enough to give her a semblance of existence even in death. However, all are false; the Koi Samurai is very real and very alive as anyone who has seen her would testify.
What is known is that she was born in the Kyoto Province of Honshu, though who she calls family and if any of them still live is unknown. It's believed she taught herself the prodigious skills in swordplay that she now employs, and once she believed she was ready for all the dangers of the world, she left Kyoto and set out on a trek to see everything there was too see; the only thing driving her was an urge to explore.
Somewhere along her nomadic path, her budding legend caught up with her in the form of a man seeking quick fame and fortune. In his mind, if he were too slay the anonymous woman, he'd gain the same level of repute. The battle was short and anti-climatic, however, ending in the man's death. But before he drew his last breath, he swung his sword and caught her off-guard, slicing open the back of her tunic and exposing a large, ornate tattoo depicting a koi fish. His eyes lingered on the image until they shut forever, but his final whispers echoed across the land and would be forever told as myth: "My quest for power was cut down early...by a koi samurai."
