Name: Yagyu Renzukan
Alias: Kourokoro Chigiri (Run Toward Destiny)
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Country: Honshou
Rank: Samurai-Personal Vassal/Retainer to the Shogun (Kinimoa Andra)
Personality:
Renzukan is a kind and gentle soul. He prefers to avoid any confrontation that he can and would never willingly take a life. That said; he would gladly kill a single evil man to save a thousand innocent ones and when in the heat of battle he will often loose his kind nature in the excitement, striking down anyone that opposes him. His philosophical ideals focus around the idea of the Life-Giving Sword and the idea that justice should not be a privilege and is required for a peaceful civilization. Though not really much of a talker, Renzukan will speak his mind when he feels that it is of any importance. He tends to keep his cool when confronted with violent situations and has been known to be very respectful of his opponents before, during, and after combat; always offering a quick end if he mortally wounds his target. Because the Yagyu samurai has not returned home in some time, he often feels lonely and tends to indulge himself in certain deeds to alleviate that lonesomeness.
Appearance:
Though Renzukan is in his mid-twenties, he does not appear to be. At most, the young samurai appears to be seventeen. His boyish looks earned him combined with his skill in swordsman ship are a deadly combination. Bright orange hair plays well with his slightly tanned skin. His bangs hang down just above his eyes and the rest of his hair is spiked upwards in an effort to stand out from most people. He has few defining features on his body with the exception of a spiraling tattoo on both wrists and a single blue band around his throat to represent his position of service to the Shogun.
As far as clothing goes, he has only two styles that he generally wears. First is his formal dress for when the Shogun is meeting with other Shoguns or important officials and other situations that require the highest level of formality. For those he wears a simple, but elegant gi. It is completely black with exception to the dark gray hakama that he wears over-top of it to keep his swords tucked tighter against his body, and the deep purple sash that wraps around his waist. Second is his casual dress, clothes that he is most often seen in when fighting or performing the more physically challenging duties of his position. It consists of a pair of black pants, and a dark cloak. When wearing this outfit, Renzukan often straps his katana and wakizashi to his back for easier mobility and access to the weapons.
Weapons:
Family: The Yagyu Clan
Pet: Name of Animal: Kinshou Kuma (Little Bear)
Type of Animal: Kodiak Bear/Ursus Arctos Middendorffi
Image of Animal:
Power(s): Brute Strength: Kinshou is able to break through most barriers and has little trouble carrying a mount. As such, Renzukan often rides him if they have a long distance to travel together.
How you gained the Animal:
Renzukan came upon Kinshou Kuma while wondering the plains a few kilometers west of the Nara District. He interjected when a group of foreigners attacked the bear and tried to capture it (men who worked for a world-traveling circus trying to recapture one of their show-animals), cutting down a fair lot of them before the others managed to flee. Kinshou attempted to follow Renzukan into Kyoto but was promptly pointed in the other direction by the samurai. Since then, Kinshou waits outside of Kyoto until Renzukan emerges and follows him around wherever he goes, keeping his distance so that he doesn't interfere with the samurai's affairs.
History:
Renzukan, born to the Yagyu family of the Nara district was a prodigy in his clan. Though he despised his training at first, he was a natural at the three main styles of combat taught by his father: Unarmed combat, Swordsmanship(Iaijutsu), and Spear wielding (Yarijutsu). He disliked the thought of hurting another person for any reason; however, when his cousin was killed before his own eyes during a street brawl when Renzukan was twelve. The young Yagyu realized that the skills he was learning and perfecting at the time would also be able to protect those that needed it.
He grew into a fine young man and, under his father's tutelage, he became one of the best swordsman that his family had ever produced, mastering most of the clan's techniques before he left his home. When Renzukan did finally leave home, he became a wandering ronin, searching out those in need and helping them in any way he could. Though he could not help everybody he met, he was content with his life choice for several years; nine to be exact. When the Samurai turned twenty-four, he found himself in a position of little power. He'd run out of money and other than guarding other men, he had little in the way of employable skills.
He found himself in Honshou, entering the court of it's previous Shogun. Starting as a mere foot soldier, Renzukan proved himself time and time again on the battlefield and moved up in rank rather swiftly. After a year of serving indirectly under the former Shogun, Renzukan was able to impress his employers enough to gain a spot in the Shogun's personal guard. It was said that during his stint as a soldier, the young samurai was able to slay sixty enemies in a single battle with only the use of a small tanto. This, obviously, was a slight exaggeration. He was assigned as the retainer for his daughter who is the current shogun.
RP Sample:
Renzukan sat quietly in seiza, staring straight ahead. He'd been like this for nearly two hours now and it didn't appear he was going to move any time soon. He shifted, his weight sitting back as he rose onto his toes. Live toes, his father had taught him. When moving around and kneeling, one had to stay on live toes, otherwise they would drag their foot, slow them self down and end up dead. He smiled to himself. His entire body turned as he unsheathed his sword, drawing across his body into a nukitsuke, his opening cut. A man fell to his knees, blood pouring from his left leg as he grasped at it. With an abrupt and rather swift stab, the man's throat was pierced and his eyes shut. That was that it seemed as the samurai flicked his blade to the side, removing any blood from it and sheathed the weapon.
